After grieving for the loss of a loved one, we accept the richness that person has brought to our lives. Join us for a suite that includes live dance combined with user and artist-generated multimedia that explores our changing perception of death, and the positive baggage we carry with us when a loved one is no longer corporal but still present. "A transformational work using the power of dance in a story from the 30's Hollywood to now. The entire suite has great range from dark to sunlight."

“Baggage” is composed of multiple dances, including a revival of a 1981 piece, "Woman Sleeping". A centerpiece in the new "Baggage" is called "Tap Dance Widows Club". Louise Reichlin (widow of Alfred Desio), Loretta Zerby (widow of Jon Zerby), and Katherine Hopkins-Nicholas (widow of Fayard Nicholas) meet to share their memories, photos, and videos of their well-known husbands. Their conversations about moving forward without their husbands' physical presence, are both hilarious and moving; this becomes the audio for this section with media including photos and videos.

The multimedia content for "Remembrance" in "Baggage" is user-generated through a Facebook campaign in which users are encouraged to share photos and stories about lost loved ones. They also share their perceptions on death and integrating the experience of artifacts and emotions that remain when their loved one has passed.

Dance At the Stone House

FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. An interactive site specific work that uses audience participation to design a dance work based on the unusual architecture and art that is the Sun Valley Youth Arts Center. The name comes because of the unusual use of native river rocks set into the architecture and interior of the building. Built in 1925, the building, designated a City Cultural Historical monument, has been transformed into a first-of-its-kind art education center in the East San Fernando Valley.

In 2007 we debuted our original work Dance At the Stone House. The unique use and look of the historic building, and the restriction of only six people in a room inspired Louise Reichlin to create this work for 4th through 6th grade students. She contacted Jesus “Chuy c/s” Rangel, the Youth Arts Center Director, and the partnership has continued. Working with our professional company dancers, the students explore the site and artwork there in small groups, learning and creating movement phrases that are then integrated into an original dance based on both architecture and movement. It is a completely kinetic approach to the building as the students first learn about the building, view the art, and also learn phrases that are part of the dance. The children are included in the audience that is on either the outside lawn or inside room. They are also part of the performance at the appropriate time as Louise Reichlin & Dancers perform a completed work that also includes the ten short phrases and 60-80 students. They are set to music on a patio area that is visible to both the inside and outside audiences’ areas.

The DANCE SHOWCASE 2010 at the Western Arts Alliance

The dates are 8/31/10 and 9/1/10 and it is an amazing menu of artists from Indian to Tap to Ballet to Hip-Hop to Modern to Light Shows and Live Music. June 2011-School residency at Aeolian El. using The Better To Bite You With about teeth and the story of Little Red Riding Hood.

April 2011- School residency at Chase Ave. Elementary begins. This is a curriculum project working with 5 classes on international dances that they then teach to the other classes in their grade level. The project culminates in June with the whole school performing the dances, which this year are from continents including North America, Africa, Asia (Japan), Pacific Islands, and Central/South America. Each year different locations and dances are selected.

March & April, 2011- After school program at Vine St Elementary (LAUSD) through partnership with the Hollywood Arts Council. After school program at Our Lady of Loretto, Los Angeles, continues.

We just finished our performances of “Baggage” at the Miles Memorial Playhouse, and following are 2 supershort clips from the production. More to come-
